Another strange term from the world of labels, 'crack back,' refers to an additional process applied to sheet labels.
Some customers will order uncut sheets of adhesive material for custom printing. When there isn't a kiss cut present, separating the label from the backing liner can be difficult. 'Crack back' is a slit into the backing liner that helps the end user to peel the top adhesive layer away.
Another term for this is 'split back.'
