Safe gap is the ‘buffer’ between the label edge and the main graphics or text in an artwork.
All main images and pictures in a design should be kept to a minimum of 2mm away from the label edge.
There is an industry standard tolerance of up to 1.5mm shift in printing an artwork due to the natural movement of a press.
While we make every effort to ensure printed jobs are aligned centrally, incorporating a safe gap into the design will ensure that your artwork is safe from drifting off the edge during print.
This tip will become particularly useful if you are printing your labels on a standard home or office printer.
